Ok, bad news...according to a random person on reddit the main salsa scene is mostly in dance studios, and not in clubs. Allegedly the dancers are better there, or whatever, who cares. Not terribly helpful given that the sort of goal I'm looking for is a club full of tipsy, female, beginner salseras. It happened once at Brasils in Philly.
None of the salsa information anywhere is up to date. Every calendar or article I find links to clubs that don't exist anymore. Nonetheless, this Saturday's candidate is Gonzalez y Gonzalez at 11:30pm. I can't find any place in manhattan/brooklyn with a "lesson" at the beginning of the night (other than a certain dance studio I'd like to avoid for about 30 days), so I'm going to have to just roll in solo--something I used to be good at but dont look forward to now since...officially...I know zero salsa people now.
Sadly, I missed my chance to start group lessons at a new studio this month, but I can do that next month.
I'm also thinking about doing swing too.

Younger crowd. Crowded. Can't pull it off solo. Must learn merengue. Sad panda lives another day.
